Rory McIlroy has warmed the cockles of our hearts this week by revealing he will wear shoes designed by kids impacted by cancer at the Irish Open.

The designs were created by a Northern Ireland charity called the Cancer Fund for Children. And they are awesome.

The current World Number One golfer is hosting the event at Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

McIlroy is also set to hand over his winnings from the tournament to his charity, The Rory Foundation, who are the official hosts of the tournament. Speaking ahead of the tournament McIlroy said:

I am not really playing for myself this week. When the European Tour approached us about getting involved, we thought it was a perfect way to really kick-start the foundation and start to help other people because of who I am and what I do. I am playing for a lot of other people and it gives me an incentive to go out there and enjoy it and try to play well.

Should he win the tournament the charities involved in the Rory Foundation will benefit from £294,000.

Well played.
