It will come as no surprise that the royal family have personal chefs to wine and dine them.

But one former chef as spoken out to MarieClaire.com about their "bizarre" eating habits - and we are fascinated!

Chef Darren McGrady, who worked at the palace between 1982 and 1993, has revealed that the Queen Mother was always late for dinner and that the family would come to dinner in their formal wear every day.

“They'd come down in dressy ball gowns, and sit at the table — like a Downton Abbey dinner. All the fine china was brought out. At the end of the meal, a bagpipe player would walk around the table,” he said.

He also revealed Princess Diana refused to eat red meat and that she had low fat versions of every meal.

"She used to trick people: Often, when guests would come, she'd have the fat-free version and the guests were on the full-fat version and no one would know the difference."

He also disclosed that Prince Harry and Prince William both loved fast food, in particular McDonald's. Pizza, potato skins and any other American foods were their favourites.

"I remember the Princess came into the kitchen one day and said, 'Cancel lunch for the boys I'm taking them out, we're going to McDonald's. And I said, 'Oh my god your royal highness, I can do that, I can do burgers.' And she said, 'No, it's the toy they want.'

Prince Philip had a dislike for organic food, while the Queen refused to eat anything with garlic in it as she hates the taste and smell of it.

Her Majesty's favourite food is dark chocolate and she starts her day off with Kellogg’s Corn Flakes every morning.

The family also reportedly have regular barbecues at Balmoral and it's been revealed that once the Queen is finished eating everyone else must stop too.

Another revelation was that the Queen likes to eat fruit off a diamond encrusted marble plate reportedly worth £500,000.
