He has won himself a Best Actor award for his flawless performance in blockbuster La La Land.

But Ryan Gosling, who has been praised for his all-singing, all-dancing performance in the Oscar-tipped movie, wasn't always a natural - as this video shows.

Appearing on the Graham Norton show during a trip to London, the star was forced to watch cringeworthy footage of himself performing in a dance troupe as a youngster - and the clip has since swept the internet with fans praising his "MC Hammer pants".

The Hollywood hunk, who was joined on the show by co-star Emma Stone, Sienna Miller and Ben Affleck, appeared visibly mortified as the hilarious video was screened.

Gosling, 36, can be seen thrusting his hips to the sound of Touch Me by Cathy Dennis in the clip believed to be from 1992 - shortly before he joined Disney's Mickey Mouse Club.

Clad in baggy white trousers and a glittery purple top, he is the only boy on stage and is joined by three young girls in tutus.

While Gosling's fellow guests fell about laughing, the father-of-two, who is married to actress Eva Mendes, looked like he wanted to crawl into a hole.

Since the clip was shown on Norton's show, its total views on YouTube have reached more than 1.2 million.

When asked how old he was at the time, a sheepish Gosling told the Irish host: "Old enough to know better!"

He is believed to be around 12 years old when the footage was filmed.

But it appears Gosling's biggest regret was not his moves but his choice of outfit, adding: "I wish I could say someone said, 'You have to wear this', but that was my idea.

"I thought, “I have a vision for this number – it’s purple and silver Hammer pants!"
