The Hits Canterbury is proud to support the Special Friends Sports Trust, who change the lives of at-risk and disadvantaged tamariki through sport.

Although there is a focus on sports their main work is around their sense of belong, wellbeing, confidence, and family support – helping the child build multiple support communities to break the cycle of trauma through sport – what they call ‘Pathways to Change’.

Their volunteers sports mentor program is literally changing the pathway of the children taking part. To date they have had over 1,200 one on one sessions, played over 30 different sports and helped changed the lives of over 40 tamariki in our city.

Special Friends Sports Trusts are in it for the long game, supporting tamariki for 5 years providing mentoring, a dedicated support person and full funding for all activities, sport and equipment.

Our Workdays host, Connor Kitto, has recently joined as a mentor, and looks forward to sharing his journey with Special Friends Sports Trust.
