Jono and Ben's Weak-End: Halloween, horse-races and cargo class

Jono and Ben are back to look at the biggest news stories from New Zealand and around the world this week.

It was Halloween on Monday and the most frightening kiwi costume was the Tax Man after the Inland Revenue posted and then deleted an attempt at a humorous Halloween tweet. The spooky tweet encouraged parents to teach kids about tax by taking a third of their Halloween lollies. The IRD tweet was met with a frostier reception than Jacinda Ardern got when she landed in Antarctica.

After many New Zealanders' frustration at lockdown, maybe we gave Jacinda and her partner Clarke Gayford the cold shoulder before they arrived in Antarctica by making them travel in the cargo hold of the plane. We suspect the tight travel budget is Finance Minister Grant Robertson’s fault and Chris Luxon may not be so keen to be Prime Minister now after seeing the footage. Unless Luxon can talk to his old employers at Air New Zealand to fly him there in style!

The Black Ferns are doing great in the Woman’s World Cup and impressing the sports world more with their effort on the field, unlike a parent at the T20 Cricket World Cup whose runaway child fell over an advertising barrier.

The Melbourne Cup saw horses racing around the track and journalists racing to talk to punters before they got too slurry from drinking. While finally in American Sports there was an unusual massage taking place on the sidelines.

That’s all in this week’s episode of Jono & Ben's Weak-End, where journalism officially loses its credibility!
