'Couples Therapy NZ' relationship expert Amanda Cox answers Brad & Laura's burning questions

Are you looking for some relationship advice? Well, look no further!

Brad and Laura had the pleasure of sitting down with psychotherapist Amanda Cox, the star of the new TV series Couples Therapy New Zealand, and she shared some valuable insights into the world of relationships.

From the importance of self-awareness to the impact of children on a couple's dynamic, Amanda tackled some burning questions that many of us have.

One of the first questions The Hits Drive show hosts posed to Amanda was whether couples therapy should be a last-ditch effort or something to tackle when cracks begin to appear in a relationship.

Amanda stressed that self-awareness is key right from the start. She mentioned that it often takes time for individuals to truly know themselves, sometimes well into their 20s or 30s. Only then can we fully comprehend the impact we have on our partners.

As Brad and Laura delved into the challenges faced by couples, the topic of raising children arose.

Amanda acknowledged that having small children can be incredibly demanding due to sleep deprivation and the varying ways couples manage parenthood. However, she emphasized that communication and the ability to truly hear each other's feelings can make the journey easier. While it may not be easy, solid couples who can communicate effectively can navigate the challenges with greater success.

The conversation then turned to the efficacy of therapy itself. Amanda made it clear that therapy is not a magic fix, but it provides an excellent starting point for couples willing to explore their issues.

Therapy serves as a mirror, reflecting what is truly going on within the relationship. Amanda stressed that her role is not to decide if a couple is right for each other, but rather to facilitate conversations and guide couples on their own path of self-discovery.

Relationships are complex, and there's no denying the challenges they bring. But with insights from experts like Amanda Cox and the willingness to embark on a journey of self-discovery, couples can navigate the rough waters and find the joy and fulfillment they seek.
