Body found in search for man swept away in a Manawatu River after dog rescue gone wrong

The man who jumped into the Manawatu River after a dog was a police prosecutor in Palmerston North.

He had been with his daughter walking their dog last night when it fell in and they went in after it.

The daughter was rescued and taken to Palmerston North Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Her father's body was found about 9.30am this morning.

A massive police presence was at the scene this morning. When the man's body was removed in a body bag, officers formed a guard of honour as it was carried into the hearse.
