Christie Brinkley is celebrating her 63rd birthday with a return to the cover of Sports Illustrated – 38 years after her iconic debut.

But this time, she's brought along her two daughters.

Brinkley will appear with Alexa Ray Joel, 31 - her daughter with singer Billy Joel - and Sailor Brinkley Cook, 18, in the issue coming out this month.

Speaking to People magazine Brinkley said, “My first thought was, ‘At my age? No way!' When I turned 30, I was like, ‘This is the last time I’m posing in a bathing suit!’ When this issue comes out, I’ll be 63. I thought, ‘Those days are over.’ But to get to do it with my girls, I thought, ‘One last go!'”

And the model hardly looked a day older than her 1979 snap, rocking a similar black swimsuit.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “Thank you Sports Illustrated for sending the powerful message that good things come in packages of every size and we do not come with an expiration date!”

Christie even appeared to walk on water during the photoshoot, thanks to a submerged apple crate.

She added in her post: “My kids think I walk on water, so let’s not mention the apple box concealed just under the surface.”

Brinkley’s youngest daughter Sailor revealed the experience was “very empowering and liberating,” while her oldest Alexa admitted to needing “to be talked into embracing new experiences."

Brinkley also talked about the common feeling of being ”limited” as a woman who is no longer in her youth.

“In a country that’s very ageist, people love to put you in little boxes ... Women feel very limited by their numbers. On a personal level, I thought, if I can pull this off, I think it will help redefine those numbers and remove some of the fear of aging.”
